This one got me this morning…

‘Though you have not met Him, you love Him. Though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.’  1 Peter 1:8&9

I haven’t met Him, and I love Him….Oh, this.

Clearly seeing..

beauty for the soul

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

There’s just no denying Him…

Prayer

“Charles Spurgeon once remarked that “the best style of prayer is that which cannot be called anything else but a cry.” Isn’t that what God invites us to do all through the bible?

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know”(Jer.33:3)

God is not aloof. He is not disconnected. He says continually through the centuries, “I’ll help you, I really will. When you don’t know where to turn, then turn to me. When you’re ready to throw up your hands – throw them up to me. Put your voice behind them too,  and I’ll come and help you.”

Eternal weight of Glory

March 8, 2014

This morning I sit in peace, light slowly rising through the windows and read this,

‘So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.’ 2 Corinthians 4:16

It’s verses like that, that make my heart skip a beat in anticipation…

Have your heart right with Him…

“If you long for Him, He much more longs for you. No sinner was ever half as eager for Christ as Christ is eager for the sinner; no saint was ever one-tenth as anxious to behold his Lord as his Lord is to behold him. If you are running to Christ, He is already near you. If you sigh for His presence, that sigh is the evidence that He is with you. He is with you even now; therefore, be glad.
Go forth, beloved, and talk with Jesus on the beach, for He often walked along the seashore. Commune with Him amid the olive groves, which were so dear to Him in many a night of wrestling prayer. Have your heart right with Him, and He will visit you often. Soon enough, you will walk every day with God, as Enoch did, and so turn weekdays into Sabbaths, meals into sacraments, homes into temples, and earth into heaven. May it be so with all believers! Amen.”
Charles Spurgeon

Navigation..

June 27, 2012

They’re there. Those gnawing anxieties.

Comes with the territory, massive life adjustments provide the perfect breeding grounds for gnawing anxieties. Those barnacles that need to be scraped off my soul ship, they need scraping then cleaning and re-painting.

I can’t let them take hold. They leave marks, deep pits. It takes real effort, soul sweat, to scrape them away. If I alone, attempt to navigate those murky waters that permit the slow attachment of soul ship suckers,  I’ll need to re-anchor my ship and allow the Captain to scrape away. Turning and Facing Christ.

Cleaning the soul ship is a grace job, I leave that to the Captain. He reminds me that he gave his life for that vessel. Forgiven.

Re-painting her requires real direction, following the lines. Soaking in scripture.

Re-align her navigation – ‘Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.’  Colossians 3:2-3

My lighthouse in these dark waters…- 3 John 1:4 ‘I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.’

Amen.

Don’t Waste your Life…

August 12, 2006

I’m reading a book called ‘Don’t Waste your Life’ by John Piper and found an inspiring quote in it. He talks about a man named Jonathon Edwards who was a pastor and theologian in New England……way back when. Anyway, John Piper goes on to say how Edwards wrote resolutions to abide by in his life as a Christian.
Here are some:

“#5 Resolved, never to lose one moment of time; but improve it the most profitable way I possibly can
#6 Resolved to live with all my might, while I do live
#17 Resolved that I will live so, as I shall wish I had done when I come to die.
#22 Resolved, to endeavour to obtain for myself as much happiness, in the other world (heaven), as I possibly can, with all the power, might, vigor, and vehemence, yea violence, I am capable of, or can bring myself to exert, in any way that can be thought of.”
It goes on to say ” this last resolution (#22) may strike us as blatantly self-centered, even dangerous, if we do not understand the deep connection in Edwards’s mind between the glory of God and the happiness of Christians. The violence he had in mind was what Jesus meant when he said in essence, “Better to gourge out your own eye to kill lust and go to heaven, than to make peace with sin and go to hell” (Matthew 5:29). And with regard to seeking his own happiness, keep in mind that Edwards was absolutely convinced that being happy in God was the way we glorify him. This was the reason we were created – to glorify God. Delighting in God is NOT a mere preference or option in life; it is our joyful duty and should be THE SINGLE PASSION OF OUR LIVES.”

I like that part – ‘the single passion of our lives’.

This is it folks…..One life…..One Passion. Don’t waste your life.
